My girlfriend suddenly says she needs space, but it doesnât mean a break up. What should I do?
Relationships are really tricky, and thereâs always often doubts floating around, so this kind of request is natural especially for an independent introvert. She has requested space, and the best thing you can do is to give her some, and not try to ask too many questions when sheâs not ready, or prod her for answers. But be open to talking, and make her know you wonât get angry, jealous or judgemental. Iâd also try to keep a happy tone, never sounding like youâre depressed or already feeling like the relationship is going to end.
If I was in your shoes, hereâs what Iâd say:
If you need space, Iâll gladly give it to you. Relationships are always tricky, and I know that you have your own personal needs, so I hope we can figure out what works for us. If you have any concerns, you can always share with me and Iâll listen without getting angry.
So if you need some personal time to reflect, Iâll respect that. I value you and I hope we can figure things out.
â
Then maybe send her a message after a week or two and see how things are going. âHey, just seeing how youâre doing. If youâd like to chat, let me know. If not, have a good weekend!â And if she doesnât respond, donât message her for a while.
Iâd also not show any evidence of checking up on her (eg. if youâre on a social networking site that shows who visited your profile, donât use it. Looking like youâre snooping on her will likely put more pressure on her).
And obviously donât flirt with other girls or show signs that youâre shopping around. Be faithful like youâre still together.
