My girlfriend suddenly says she needs space, but it doesnāt mean a break up. What should I do?
Relationships are really tricky, and thereās always often doubts floating around, so this kind of request is natural especially for an independent introvert. She has requested space, and the best thing you can do is to give her some, and not try to ask too many questions when sheās not ready, or prod her for answers. But be open to talking, and make her know you wonāt get angry, jealous or judgemental. Iād also try to keep a happy tone, never sounding like youāre depressed or already feeling like the relationship is going to end.
If I was in your shoes, hereās what Iād say:
If you need space, Iāll gladly give it to you. Relationships are always tricky, and I know that you have your own personal needs, so I hope we canĀ figure out what works for us. If you have any concerns, you can always share with me and Iāll listen without getting angry.
So if you need some personal time to reflect, Iāll respect that.Ā I value you and I hope we can figure things out.
ā
Then maybe send her a message after a week or two and see how things are going.Ā āHey, just seeing how youāre doing. If youād like to chat, let me know. If not, have a good weekend!āĀ And if she doesnāt respond, donāt message her for a while.
Iād also not show any evidence of checking up on her (eg. if youāre on a social networking site that shows who visited your profile, donāt use it. Looking like youāre snooping on her will likely put more pressure on her).
And obviously donāt flirt with other girls or show signs that youāre shopping around. Be faithful like youāre still together.
